Saturday 27th February, 2016, the FIRST NATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF BLIND TENNIS was held in Valencia (Spain).
National Tournament of this type of adapted tennis was held in Spain for the 1st time with players from different cities of Spain. This sport is now catching a boom among visually impaired athletes from across all the country being practiced already in Valencia, Málaga, Madrid and Salinas (Asturias), with requests to open academies in other cities of the national territory.
It was a great day of sport in which players had an exemplary behavior with great competitiveness and exquisite respect for their opponents, big group of volunteers and coaches that managed this tournament to take place smoothly and those responsible for the pavilion of the Polytechnic University of Valencia who helped us making this event a success.
We hope this tournament was a breaking point for such a wonderful sport as Blind Tennis which is increasingly getting to be known by the Spanish society as it has a number of features that makes it really attractive for blind and visually impaired people. It helps them improve their coordination, spatial orientation capacity, it improves their autonomy and it has no risk of impact with other players.
